SOME THINGS YOU DO WANT TO SEE AT THE FARM, and some things you don't!

We took a much needed break from the rain and headed out to the farm yesterday. Being on borrowed time, it was a quick trip. I did bring my camera, and as usual, I found some really cool things to photograph. The house is still a work in progress, but not much more to show. In due time, I promise to do the grand finale.

Until then, your stuck with life on the farm. The good, bad and the ugly.

Which category do you think Levi falls into?

Wild flowers, found out in the open field.

Snails, found out in the understory.

Interesting growths found in the understory.

Things found out in the open field that you really don't want to run into!

SO MUCH EXCITEMENT

It's been busy around here. With the puppies, Joe's mom in and out of the hospital, work, school, church and a family reunion to plan we have been full speed ahead. All good (now), of course.

The reunion is finally coming together with quite a few people saying they are planning on attending. I have some easy, good ideas to get everyone together and talking. The food, that's another story. It seems easy to get the place and the idea, but to get people to commit, that has been more of a challenge. But, happily, they are coming around at the last minute, so a good time is in the works.

Sorry Dina, I REALLY wish you and your family could be with us. Hopefully this will just be a start and more family will be able to make it next time!

I still have time for suggestions if anyone has any.

The time is short, and the list is long.
Good luck to me, I don't want to do wrong.

AND THEY CALL IT, PUPPY LOVE...

Well, it's official, we're in love. The puppies are growing and keeping us entertained. They are still sleeping a lot but when they're not, we like to see up close and personal how they are doing. This afternoon, Elijah loving on Blurr.
Last week, Naomi with Rocket.

Today, Levi and Comet. This was right before he barked. I had no idea dogs could bark as such a young age. Surprised us all!

Elijah, taking it all in.....

Blurr, Comet and Rocket. I told them all to look their best, but Comet didn't seem to care!

CLOUDS

It seems I have really had my head in the clouds these days! I have
always loved, and thought one of God's true blessings, was our sky. It
is like a painting that is forever changing. So, I thought I would
take a moment this morning and take a few pictures. Rounding the
corner, taking the kids to school was the inspiration. It looked like
a whole bag of cotton balls had been dumped in the sky!

This is the view I love the most, rounding the corner on the way home.
It is where the sun is rising, often with lots of color. Today, the
clouds made it really dramatic. Such a nice way to start the day!

BUTTER

I'm not sure why there are only two puppies in these pictures, but
that's all I could get.

It seems they really grew in the three days I was gone. I'm glad
though, it means they are doing well and growing. Two have opened
their eyes, but the third one seems very content just the way he is!

Watching them has become one of my favorite pastimes, well, everyones
favorite pastime!

JOEY'S NEW LOOK

Woo hoo! We are on to something. Elijah needed a wig for school so he
ask if he could borrow one I had. Joe, seeing an opportunity to get a
laugh, put it on and ask me to take a picture. Little did he know......

NAOMI IN THE MORNING

We are having the hair "debate" already. It seems she is going through
the "wear it straight down" phase. This does not make me happy. I took
a picture of her hair to show her the difference. After seeing the
pics, she agreed. Of course, that doesn't mean she has to like it!

SLEEPING LIKE A BABY

We have been having SO much fun watching our new additions. Butter is
a wonderful mommy, so she has made it easy. They eat, they sleep. They
make the sweetest little noise when they need attention, and she comes
running.

This is the loner of the bunch, Comet. He seems to always be appart
from the other two. Not far, but doesn't seem to need the support team
that the other two have. We'll see when he gets older if he stays that
way.

Their eyes should be open any day now!

HAPPY BIRTH DAY!

Introducing clockwise from the left, Comet, Rocket and Blurr. Formerly known as Prince, Shrek and Charming. Our beloved Maltese-Poodle mix, Butter gave birth extremely early this morning. I have been keeping tabs on them all day to ensure there well being (they're so cute, I loved it). Butter has left them only to do her business, with me bringing food and water to her bed. Tomorrow's going to be a different story, as I will have to leave them to work. I feel confident that she can do her thing!

WARNING: might not be suitable for younger viewers

Today started early for us. In fact, at this point it seems like yesterday never ended.

I know a few of my readers have been known to be up at odd times. I found myself joining that group last night. It was time for bed when I noticed our dog, Butter acting strangely. She was due to give birth in the next few days, but it seemed she was starting then. I had read a few books on what to expect when expecting, and felt like I needed to be there with her if possible. I know there is controversy over just about everything these days, and I seem to fuel the fire at times. Making the decision to breed our dog, and then wanting to be there and document the birth is only one.

So, you see I was a bit excited! I was also tired from spending a fun, busy weekend with my brother and his family. But it was the excitement that took over and I was ready. We introduced her to her birthing spot a couple of weeks ago and she was set to have them.

She had been laying around more than normal yesterday, but I figured with all the extra people around she needed her time. Then I noticed the big balls on either side of her body. She looked liked like she had swallowed a couple of big balls and they got stuck on either side...... Then the heavy panting started. I knew the birth was going to happen soon, so I kissed Joe goodnight and told him I would see him shortly. The shortly came at 4am but it was worth it. I have been through 3 births of my own, seen a chicken lay an egg, and now I was going to experience my baby dog giving birth. She seemed to be a natural, but ended up needing a little help. After several minutes (one's that seemed like an hour) her water broke and she was showing signs that a pup was ready to come out. Then I saw it, a foot. From all the information I had, this was not a good sign. I ran for Joe's help, feeling bad to wake him up, but this was an emergency. We were going to have to help Butter have this baby. I was the one to help pull the pup out, with Joe's encouragement. I thought for sure that he had been in the birth canal for too long and wasn't going to make it. Butter took to him right away and started cleaning him up. He seemed really big, and he has turned out to be the biggest one she had. The second one came out with ease, just as the books had described.

After this video was made, we stayed with them for a while longer wanting to make sure everything was OK. Joe, feeling confident that Butter was doing well, and the babies were nursing, went back to bed. I wasn't ready, I wanted to stay with them a little longer and make sure Butter got all the attention and praise from me that she loves. She is such a people dog, and loves everyone and lots of attention. That is why I thought her puppies would bring as much joy to some one elses life, as she has ours.

So, in the course of rubbing on her and talking to her, I noticed she was acting funny again. Then I noticed the contractions. I wasn't sure what to expect since it had been quite a while since she gave birth, but I was ready. The last baby was born almost an hour later with no complications. She took to it as well as she did the other two, and maybe a little better since she only had the one to deal with. In the video, you see her trying her best to cut the umbilical cord. Most of the chewing that she is doing, is on the cords. We thought about cutting them ourselves, but after the delivery, I wanted her to do as much as she could. (I know it really looks like it by the way you keep seeing my hand in the video!)

The kids were happy to see the new additions, with Butter doing well this morning. I'm sure the whole school will know about it soon! I feel blessed and thankful to witness such a miracle as a new life coming into this world. I hope you enjoy the video, I'm sure you will hear more about Butter and her babies in the future!

Trivia: I named them Prince, Charming and Shrek. I named the first two before I knew there was to be a third, so when we were calling them, we would say, "Come on Prince Charming". OK, it sounded better at 3am!

Update: The names have been officially changed to Comet, Blurr, and Rocket. I guess those do sound a little better, don't they?

MY MAN

A rare picture of Joe in the kitchen. He normally is at the sink doing dishes when I decide to get the camera out. So, out of character, I decided I needed to take a picture with him looking so handsome. You know I love the one's of him doing dishes (because the dishes are getting done) but this is how I see him. My Man!

NAOMI'S NEW HAIRDO

Naomi was ready for a change!

Being tired of me asking to put her hair up, she decided to get it cut. I was ready for ponytails and braids, she was ready for it to be gone.

Being the sweet mommy I am, I compromised and gave her a bit of a trim.

She wanted me to cut the back shorter, but I wanted to try it like this.

The air dried style looks even better' but she doesn't want it to stick out...we'll have to see how that goes. My plan is not to blow dry it and have it look good.

As I have found out, many times before, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

When we were having the debate over how short the back should go, she reminded me that whats inside of you is what counts and not your looks. That's my girl!
